Those of you who read my posts, you already know that I'm not as up to date as I'd like to be when it comes to getting on hands on new launches. There are more than a handful of brands that have been around for decades or are cult favorites that I have not gotten around to trying: Lancome, Clarins, Elizabeth Arden, Kevin Aucoin, Hourglass, Bobbi Brown... With that said, I was really excited when I was finally able to get myself something from ColourPop! I've watched numerous YouTube reviews and demonstrations- it seemed that everyone has nothing bad to say about ColourPop.
I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a few items in January. As I often say, I am not a fan of eyeshadow pots. I prefer palettes over individuals pots because I don't enjoy having to scavenge for a particular shade when getting ready in the morning. I decided to get the Kathleen Lights Where the Light Is collection and see what the buzz was about. I also got myself a couple of their ultra matte lipsticks because I also heard a lot of great things about them.
It took almost two weeks for me to receive them in the mail (Which was the part I didn't like - I'm so used to my Amazon Prime benefits). I really like the ColourPop packaging- it's clean and simple. As for the products themselves, I really didn't know what to expect with the eyeshadows other than they are super pigmented and they're long lasting. I've played around with the shadows enough that I can confidently say that I like the texture. When you press your finger on it, it feels a bit squishy and I find that pretty cool. I don't have anything else like it.
The collection has four shades: glow, cornelious, blaze and Kathleen Lights. Glow and cornelious are matte shadows while blaze and Kathleen Lights are shimmery/metallic shades. I actually gave away the metallic shades because I wasn't really into the colors but I LOVE the matte shades. I think they are so pretty. I use them on days when I don't want to wear a heavy eye look. But, I also think that the shadows don't blend as easily as I thought it would. The first time I applied it, I used a brush and it made the shadow very clumpy. So now, when I do put it on, I use my finger to apply the color on the lid and then I gently and evenly apply the shade I want to use on my crease area. I prime my eyes and I also use a setting spray and so far, I love the way it's working out. I probably won't purchase individual pots but I can definitely see myself getting collections.
It really pains me to say this but I did not like the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks. I know that they are ultra matte but it just dried my lips so badly that I just didn't think it was worth the discomfort. I got two Ultra Matte Lip products and I returned them both. I really, really didn't want to. I really, really wanted to like them because I cannot deny that ColourPop lip products are gorgeous but they really didn't work out for me (yes, even after exfoliating and moisturizing my lips).
I did hear about ColourPop launching satin lip products and I'm actually looking forward to checking those out. I think they'll be more of a fit for my liking.
