Queens residents were not fazed by the rain on Tuesday night. The crowd came to celebrate one of the borough's prominent neighborhoods, Long Island City (or LIC as locals refer to it) at the 10th Annual Taste of LIC. The event featured various dishes from some of Western Queens' best restaurants. It was my first time attending Taste of LIC and I had a great time. I was able to sample from restaurants that I have been meaning to try but just haven't gotten to. I was also happy to see a handful of my favorite restaurants at the event.
Since it was raining and cold, some of the dishes served to guests were comforting and hearty (The lamb chili from Woodbines was fantastic!). I also really liked the dumplings from Fushia Restaurant. I would have to say that my favorites from the event were the shrimp sliders and the curry (I totally forgot which restaurants they were from). I also came across the folks from Beyond Brewing Company. They served really amazing kombucha beer and I'm still not quite over how much I loved it. One of the more innovative item I got to try was the bloody mary doughnut- it was definitely an interesting flavor.
The highlight of the evening was when I spun the wheel at the East River Ferry booth and won a ticket! Let's hope the weather for next year's event is a nicer one.
