I found out about this place through QueensEats' Instagram feed a couple of weeks ago and was immediately intrigued when someone mentioned an "outdoor garden". I don't know about you guys but when it starts to get warm, all I want to do is be outside. I am all about rooftops, gardens and yes, I'll take sidewalks as well. With that said, I was super excited to check out this joint. I got even more psyched out of my mind to learn that it's in Queens! I was lucky enough to finally have brunch here over the holiday weekend.
The Bonnie or The Bonnie Bar aka The Bonnie Astoria opened its doors late last year but the summer season is really its thriving moment because of the amazing outdoor garden. The space isn't huge but it's comfortably spacious. Each table is a communal table, making The Bonnie a perfect spot for group brunches/ dinners. Not only is the space aesthetically pleasing but the food is just as lovely.
I really love that the brunch menu wasn't overwhelming and that there's a balance between the good, fattening stuff and the healthier options. I also really appreciated their brunch cocktail choices because they're unique. I don't think I saw a bellini, mimosa or sangria on the menu. I did, however, notice that they're kind of big on bloody marys - which I sadly am not a fan of. There were still a handful of options for folks like me.
I actually couldn't decide which cocktail to get so I went for what I felt most comfortable with- the summer shandy. For my main dish, I opted for the cured salmon sandwich which was both filling and satisfying. I won't really get into the flavor specs here because I think you just need to try for yourself. I will say one thing though- it doesn't suck.
