Edible Manhattan Magazine hosted its 4th Annual Good Spirits event at 82 Mercer on February 21, 2013. The evening featured distinguished spirit brands pairings with popular New York City restaurants and food artisans. The publication is a bi-monthly food magazine. It covers news about local foods, food culture, restaurants, beauty and passion of the wine, variety of healthy recipes, drinks and food markets. Our NYC team was there to partake in the boozy revelry. The chicken meatballs from Dinner on Ludlow were absolutely mouth watering. I was mobbed by a handful of guests who already tried it after I grabbed a plate. "You don't even know what you're getting yourself into! It's that good!", one of the many comments people hurled at me as I prepared to eat it.
Every epic comment about the Asian glazed chicken meatballs was precise. What's really admirable about them is that I wasn't able to tell that they were chicken. When it comes to meatballs, I'm typically hands down beef or pork-only person but Dinner on Ludlow managed to change my perspective.
The most popular dish of the evening was pork belly. I loved the Braised Pork Belly Topped with Quick Pickled Beet, Olive Oil Poached Baby Fennel, Mache Salad finished with a Karlsson's Honey Orange Glaze from Veselka Bowery. Sadly, I wasn't able to try the House Smoked Pork Shoulder, Mini Sesame Brioche and Winter Slaw was from Monument Lane.
Another one of my favorites were the dish and drink combo from Northern Spy Food Co. Both were incredibly pleasing to my taste palette. I wish that I had more time to go back for seconds, thirds, fourths...
One of the food items that I unfortunately missed the chance to try was the moon pie. People kept telling me to try it but I wanted to be proper and have dessert for last (lesson learned..).
