Edible Manhattan hosted Eat, Drink, BBQ at the Southwest Porch in Bryant Park last night. The event featured a whole roast pig from Niman Ranch, a variety of salads and greens from 'witchcraft (as well as sandwiches and cream'wiches). Food was accompanied by wines from Wölffer Estate Vineyard, beer from Brooklyn Brewery and Peak Brewing and cider from Cliffton Dry. In addition, there were also spirits from Hudson Whiskey and Tuthilltown . Non-alcohol drinkers also enjoyed refreshments from Q Kola. What makes a fun BBQ even better? Music- which the Rocket and the Ghost provided. I was lucky to have partaken in the BBQ awesomeness.
They said BBQ and they meant it. The grill was fired up and the food was served buffet style. From the buffet tables, I was able to have the grilled chicken, corn bread, cold cuts sandwiches, grilled corn, string bean and tomato salad and beet salad. Everything was good but I especially liked the beets, tomatoes, corn bread, corn and chicken. The salads were juicy and fresh and the chicken was moist and flavorful. I also got to have a bit of the roast pig which was amazing with the corn bread (I got a good portion of the skin, which is my favorite part and the best part). I was also able try most (if not all) of the beverage sponsors.
I was able to try merlot and chardonnay from Wölffer Estate Vineyard, grapefruit soda from Q Kola and cider from Cliffton Dry. I also had the Indigenous Razzy Cocktail with Indigenous Vodka, cranberry juice, mint, frozen raspberries and limes, which was one of my favorite mixes of the evening. My other favorite was the White Corn Mule with Hudson White Corn, lime and ginger Beer. There were plenty of food for everyone but by 8 P.M., dessert was served which were 'witchcraft's cream'wiches.
