Nostalgic Sweets and Some Serious Snocones at Handsome Dan's
During a Williamsburg venture over the weekend, I came across a charming sign that succeeded in luring me into following its bold arrows. It was almost as if the sign was teasing me; "I dare you to not like me! I have awesome snocone flavors AND I have candy!" Where was the sign pointing to? Handsome Dan's Snocone & Candy Stand (a lucky find since I purposely made my way to Brooklyn to look for candy shops).
Upon entering the space where the bold arrows are pointing, the door opens up to a much bigger space than one would expect. Handsome Dan's Snocone and Candy Stand is tucked within the rows of multiple shops. The store is quite small but that actually works for them. Unlike the big candy stores, visitors will not be overwhelmed with an extremely large amount of candy. Handsome Dan's space give guests the chance to see everything in the shop. The candies are stored in adorable glass jars which act as wall decorations.
Though the walls definitely make a sweet eye candy; Candy is not the main attraction here. Handsome Dan boasts its gourmet snow cones. Yes, Handsome Dan wants us to forget the froyo scene for a bit and try his homemade snow cones (which are topped with homemade syrup). Their snocone flavors are Earl Grey Cream, Lemon-Lime Zest, and Rose Pomegranate (ingredients include real fruits).
I was able to try the Guava snocone and it was the best snow cone I ever had. I decided to top my snocone with condensed milk and lime- it was a wise choice. What I really appreciated with the snocone was that there were varying flavors. Regular snow cones are bland but Handsome Dan's frozen treat makes you forget that there's even ice in it. It was definitely worth the $5 I spent.
