LIC Flea's 2017 Opening Day Was Poppin'

LIC Flea's 2017 Opening Day Was Poppin'

LIC Flea & Food kicked off its 2017 season with a huge turn out and sunny skies. The best food festival in Queens has over 80 vendors, selling goodies from stickers and magnets, tacos and briskets and one-of-a-kind furniture. I have been loyal LIC Flea & Food attendees for a couple of years. It's my favorite place to discover amazing local food and Saturday's event did not let me down.

Q&A with Finback Brewery co-owner, Basil Lee

Q&A with Finback Brewery co-owner, Basil Lee

I don’t think I ever necessarily had a thing that I wanted to be when I grew up. I think I always knew that I wanted to have fun. As a child I wanted to have fun when I grew up. I wanted to do something that I enjoyed. I did enjoy drinking beer growing up for sure. When I realized what I really wanted to do, I was an architect. I still enjoy it and I went to art school so I know I wanted to do something creative. That kind of transitioned into brewing which I also think is an art. It’s a very creative kind of thing.

Local Eats: The Green Street LIC

I first heard about The Green Street LIC from Long Island City resident, gantrygram (IG handle). Over the weekend, Michael and I decided to finally check this place out.

Local Eats: Nan Xiang Dumpling House

Flushing is home to one of the best hand pulled noodles in NYC, awesome street vendors and the best soupy dumpling restaurant- Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao. Once you've had their soupy dumplings, you just can't go back. None of the other soupy dumplings will do. There was one point when I had their dumplings three times a week- it is that good.

The Bacon Madness Was Real at The Great Big Bacon Picnic 2016

The Bacon Madness Was Real at The Great Big Bacon Picnic 2016

If there was one dish that summarized just how insane The Great Big Bacon 2016 was, it would be the 5 Shades of Bacon by 1633. Their booth had the longest line and people couldn't stop talking about this bacon concoction on a stick. What was it? Okay, brace yourself- it was pork belly cooked under pressure, dipped in maple bacon glaze, sprinkled with bacon pop rock crumble, wrapped in clear edible paper with smoke of bacon, topped with powdered bacon, mixed with crumble bacon biscuit. I'll give you a minute to let that sink in.

Brewsday: Dogfish Head Olde School (2 year old edition!)

Yes the fruit is a bit stronger which may still be too strong for some. Yes, the alcohol taste has subsided which may be too low for some, but I like it. I'm curious to see how the final bottle tastes in 2017. This is still a great improvement from the original bottle in 2014.
